lol. whoever deemed Death Grind's "Dan is Asian" worthy of appearing in this article was grossly misinformed about said band's obscurity (probably). according to last.fm, they only have two listeners; inherently, they do not warrant encyclopic mention. possibly added by a member of the band... or "groupie".Borkorg 04:10, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, there's a shorter musical entry

The shortest recording on a commercially-released musical album is Sly and the Family Stone's "There's a Riot Goin' On" from their 1971 album of the same name. According to the time check on the record label, its length is exactly zero minutes and zero seconds. B.Wind 21:51, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Indeed. I believe that You Suffer is a twisted cover version of "There's a Riot Goin' On", but including some of the words... I can clearly hear "Riot Goin' On", not "Blearaghth". You may find that your interpretation is incorrect - the lyric (as recorded on the 'Scum' album) is indeed 'You suffer - but why?'. The lyric is a shortened version of the lyric which appeared on the version of the song recorded on the 'From Enslavement to Obliteration' demo recording in March 1986 which contains the lyric 'You suffer - but why? Because you're fucking stupid'.

Guinness World Record

Dear all,
I have a vague feeling online sources copy from each other regarding the Guinnes World Records entry. The earliest online source I found so far is the March 2006 OC Weekly article, which may have its information from this Wikipedia article, where the world record was already included in the very first version from August 2005, not providing citation. The 2005 Guinness Book of World Records doesn't list the song. I'll look into earlier issues, but so far... Any thoughts on this?

Hallo everyone, I was the guy that started the topic in the German wiki.

When there are music articles in the news about this band, this record is mentioned quite often - it seems for many this song is synonymous with this record.

After skipping through multiple issues of GWR books from 1987 til 2000 I couldn't any mentioning of this record in them or on their website (or possible previous/later record holders). But I was able to find some similar odd or strange records (like Manowar being the loudest band, or the longest and shortest opera - and even the shortest opera seems to require more effort than just the shortest song, which can be just hitting one note or shortening any sound in the studio to whatever is shorter than the current record).

Another user of the German Wiki mentioned an entry in the Encyclopedia of popular music by Guinness (https://archive.org/details/encyclopediaofpo0006unse/page/114/mode/2up), but there is just mentioned that the song had the very short runtime of 0.75 seconds, which differs heavily in comparison to the alleged record time of 1.316 seconds.

I also tried to find an official statement by the band, that they are the proud record holders but I couldn't find any claim by the band or their label on their respective websites. Even the documentary The Scum Story has a chapter dedicated to You suffer and but does not mention anything about this presumed record.

The only Napalm Death record that IS indeed in the GWR books is for the shortest music video aired on TV - but not for You Suffer but for The Kill on German music television VIVA running 10 seconds (page 120 in the color edition and page 196 in the b/w edition) (and yes, I know, the version of The Kill on Youtube is a 30 second version).
