Yb → YB – Nearly everything here can be referred to as "YB." ~2026-40137-19 (talk) 21:01, 16 July 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. In solidarity, Gommeh (talk 🎮 sign) 17:41, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom. At a minimum, I count 8 YB's and 4 Yb's. Several of these are either not in English or are otherwise non-standard, so it's a little unclear how these would be abbreviated, but even if I'm wrong about a couple of these, the YB's are still in the majority. —Myceteae🍄🟫 (talk) 02:04, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: If I understand correctly, we're supposed to prefer formatting as words over abbreviations, and we do have one entry that is not an abbreviation – Yb, Russia. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:35, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- This true, at least in part. WP:DABNAME lists several principles that should be considered in selecting the name. The first is
A word is preferred to an abbreviation
and the last isThe spelling that reflects the majority of items on the page is preferred to less common alternatives
. The second bullet isWhen no word can be formed, all capitals is preferred
. If a word can be formed, but the majority of entries are all caps, what then? One read is that two out of three of these criteria prefer Yb, if we accept that "Yb" as in Yb, Russia is a "word". But to select the title based on just one of the 12 entries seems at odds with the overall approach. —Myceteae🍄🟫 (talk) 16:58, 21 July 2026 (UTC)- Capitalization is not spelling. — BarrelProof (talk) 00:45, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- I mean, sure. Still, it seems odd to select a title that doesn't match the styling of a supermajority of entries, and especially for just one entry out of 12 to drive the entire decision. —Myceteae🍄🟫 (talk) 01:05, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
