Vague wording

[edit]

This sentence in Xrdb is so vague as to be almost completely meaningless:

  • For example, the instruction xrdb -load $HOME/.Xresources can be placed in scripts that are executed when the server is started to read the user preferences from the file .Xresources in their home directory.

The sentence has three consecutive verbs in the passive voice, each with missing actor:

  • "can be placed in scripts" - by what or by whom? The user? The system administrator? A program? And what scripts?
  • "that are executed" - by what or by whom?
  • "when the server is started" - by what or by whom?

The external link:

is equally muddy, and appears to start off with an error in its first command line example, with the descriptive text mentioning a -load option which does not appear in the example. --Teratornis (talk) 01:00, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
