XR can also mean eXchange Rate based on how it is used on some websites, e.g. XR calculator, XR data feeds, XR transactions, source: www.exchangerate.com. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.200.102.69 (talk • contribs) 20 h 09, 9 June 2005 (UTC)

XR → XR (disambiguation) – And turn the original page into a redirect to Extended reality. Since Apple released their own AR/XR headset, as well as since the XR boom (similar to the AI boom) caused by the aforementioned headset, "extended reality" became the most common use of the term "XR". 67.209.128.31 (talk) 23:55, 8 December 2024 (UTC) 67.209.128.31 (talk) 23:55, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. There is no evidence for that assertion, and over time iPhone XR has 10× as many views . Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 21:00, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose per weak assertion. also as Shhhnotsoloud. But even looking at the Apple Vision Pro, the term XR is not used, and even the phrase "extended reality" is only used a single time in the article, and neither the "extended" nor "XR" appear in either of the cited articles. XR or extended reality?
[edit]Yesterday, I tried adding a neutral description to the XR disambiguation page, but it appears to have been removed on the grounds that a disambiguation page is not intended for definitions. However, the current page already contains several short definitional descriptions, and in practice the term does have multiple meanings.

As you can see from [5], considering the historical background and the positions currently taken by several standardization organizations, it seems risky to categorically assert that XR, as an umbrella term, is simply an abbreviation for “extended reality” while excluding other interpretations.
[5] Kurata, T. (2026). XR is XR: Rethinking MR and XR as Neutral Umbrella Terms. arXiv preprint arXiv:2603.29939. https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2603.29939 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=XR&oldid=1356323790
I suspect that the “extended reality” page is effectively controlled by a particular group of editors, so I think it may be better not to edit that page directly. In this situation, what would you recommend? Takekurata (talk) 01:04, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
