Having checked the links at the bottom of the article, I found the XML Protocol Working Group was closed on the 10th July 2009. From what I can see, it seems they determined SOAP to be the protocol that fit their needs. There seems to be no 'XML protocol' other than that. There certainly is no literal "XML protocol" that ever was in use.

Could someone mark the article as outdated or update it to reflect these changes?

Maybe it would also be a good idea to edit the SOAP article with XML protocol information and remove this article, and replace all links to this article with links to the respective section. The SOAP article already mentions the Working Group but is missing background information on their rationale. Schlechter Verlierer (talk) 12:18, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
