Job design → Work design – Wikipedia's precision convention states that a title should "unambiguously define the topical scope of the article, but should be no more precise than that." Several prominent authors in the subject field have argued that "job design" is too narrow of a term and have opted for for term "work design" instead, as it acknowledges both the job (i.e. an employees' prescribed technical tasks) as well as employee engagement in emergent, social, and self-initiated activities within flexible roles (see Parker, 2004; Parker & Wall, 1998; Morgeson & Humphrey, 2006). Literature written in the last 2 decades rarely refers to the topic as "job design" for this reason. As "job design" could be considered a lower-order component of "work design", I would argue that the less precise, broader term should be used as the article title. Regardless, a terminology/usage section could be written to clear up distinctions between work/job/task design for readers. • This should probably be discussed before moving. While there are slightly more sources that call it "work design" (12 vs 10), and the "work design" ones are slightly newer (average publication date of 2008 vs 2002), neither of those show a strong enough preference to make this move non-controversial. --Ahecht (TALK
