Solidwood

This term seems to be used differently by different industry sectors. For example, it is used by the logging industry to distinguish logging operations destined for solid timber products from those used to produce fibre products such as paper. This would include plywood in the definition of solidwood, however one would not put a sheet of plywood through a thicknesser. In furniture production, solidwood seems to mean solid timber versus man-made products such as ply and MDF. Machinery manufacturers have a different definition again. I Googled it and found no clear defintion. As such, I replaced this label with General because it seems confusing and ambiguous and doesn't add anything to the definition of these machines.

As for Panel line, I can't comment - Google brought up many references to diverse topics, including making plastic models! This page seems to have been set up for a very specific purpose and is not what I would call encyclopeadic. There are links to exhibitions, many of which are in the past. Perhaps there needs to be a new page to satisfy the needs of machinery manufacturers? I don't have the knowledge to handle this. I'm creating a section for external links and putting all of these association and exhibition links there, plus removing the old ones - for now.

I think this article is a mess. A description of large scale cabinet manufacturing is certainly needed (and the associated machinery), but the original author did not seem to know anything about smaller scale artisanal and hobby woodworking. I suggest this page .... ah, I'll just be bold & try to fix it.Luigizanasi 05:52, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
