Wiyot Orthography

[edit]

I've noticed that Wiyot's orthography in the article does not match the the current orthography used by the Wiyot Tribal Government. Under the Wiyot Tribe's orthography, the IPA tables in this article's Phonology section would look like the ones below:

Consonants:

Bilabial Alveolar Postalveolar
or palatal
Velar Glottal
central lateral plain labialized
Plosive voiceless b [p] d [t] g [k] q [] ' [ʔ]
aspirated p [] t [] k [] qh [kʷʰ]
Affricate voiceless ts [ts] j []
aspirated tsh [tsʰ] ch [tʃʰ]
Fricative s [s] lh [ɬ] sh [ʃ] h [h]
Nasal m [m] n [n]
Flap rr [ɾ]
Approximant v [β] r [ɹ] l [l] y [j] gh [ɣ] w [w]

Vowels:

Front Central Back
High i [i] ou [u]
Low e [e] u [a] a [ɑ]

This orthography should be included in the article alongside Teeter's practical orthography due to its usage by the Wiyot Tribe's government and in language revitalization materials provided by the Wiyot Tribe. PKMNLives (talk) 02:07, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
