Change surnames into the names they are known by
[edit]Nobody knows Wirtual by Iverson or Riolu by Fejza. I think it would be better if their nicknames are used. I don't know if this is some rule of wikipedia where real names have to be used, please tell me. LlamaBeanss (talk) 02:47, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- It’s just a convention of formal writing. Since an article like this is intended to be impersonal and formal, proper names should be used if available over nicknames. Grendon84 (talk) 06:11, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- Bonnie Tyler's Wikipedia article also constantly uses “Tyler” though despite the artist's actual name being “Gaynor Sullivan”. This happens all the time with pseudonyms on Wikipedia. Is there some kind of actual guideline for this? I feel persons should be referred to as how they are best known. I just checked some other other things too. Black Metal artists who go by stage names like “Infernus” and “Gaahl” are also referred as such on Wikipedia because no one knows them by their actual names. It seems to be inconsistent among progamers though. Jaedong and Bisu are consistently referred to under their handle on their Wikipedia pages but BoxeR and FlaSh are constantly referred to under their family name. sAviOr's page uses both inconsistently.
- If this standard were actually applied consistently then Wikipedia articles would quickly become incomprehensible to anyone who starts reading them from the middle on. So many artists and progamers operate on pseudonyms and stage names with their real names either being largely unknown, or in some cases actually unknown and kept secret.
