Okay...
[edit]I have just created this article and I know that it is tremendously incomplete. It lacks information about upgrading between Windows versions, WinFLP, and Windows 1.x and 2.x. Any contributions from knowledgeable users would be greatly appreciated! GSMR (talk) 22:17, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Windows NT setup
[edit]It should be mentioned that The Text stage of setup actually runs on MS-DOS and the later GUI stage is on NT. 3.1-5.2 all used the two stage setup until Version 6.0 vista adopted WINPE and ran all of setup in the same environment as the final install. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.193.153.184 (talk) 04:25, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Some XP and server 2003 based OS also use windows PE
[edit]Windows embedded for point of service v1,windows fundamentals for legacy pcs,and windows embedded POSReady 2009 also use GUI setup.but after a restart they use first boot agent instead. Windows home server v1 uses a vista windows PE.but after the first restart an unattended non GUI setup(the one on XP 2000 and below)appears and copy's the windows server 2003 files.then the setup is XP like from that point. This page did not say anything about these,so it should be added in

- Windows 3.x setup, unlike older and later versions, is useful to reconfigure running Windows (e.g. to replace system drivers) and to repair installed Windows from DOS mode? (For instance, hardware changed.) - Which modules Setup consists of, and which part each does? (Windows 3.1 has single setup.exe, but WfW DOS part in rsetup.com is separated from Windows part, winsetup.exe, and setup.exe is a stub that calls the appropriate part) Or Windows 9X includes setup.exe which calls dossetup.bin or winsetup.bin; setupx.dll, wininit.exe, runonce.exe, grvconv.exe...
