Inclusion of possible future regnal names

[edit]

We've recently seen a series of edits removing and restoring possible future regnal names on this page. There are similar entries for the potential future George VII (of the UK and other realms), Queen Elizabeth (of Belgium) and Jacques II (of Monaco), and there may be others for the future heads of other European monarchies. There even used to be a similar entry on the George VIII disambiguation page at one time, not to mention on Charles III before the current monarch's accession.

My view is that these should all be removed in accordance with WP:CRYSTAL; what do others feel? Rosbif73 (talk) 07:50, 7 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Depends on the sourcing and on whether the term is mentioned on the target page. There was until recently another entry on George VII, which was reported in multiple reliable sources, and is mentioned on Charles III, so IMHO has been inappropriately removed. Likewise, William V (which isn't nearly as speculative as George VII being Charles' regnal name) is also reported in multiple sources (though not necessarily in William's WP article). StAnselm (talk) 19:01, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
