Another son? — M. J. Dind

Australian newspapers have references to several athletes named Dind, including an M. J. Dind, runner with the Warringah Harriers in 1895;^[1] PapersPast, the New Zealand newspaper aggregator, has numerous references to one M. J. Dind playing (left-handed batsman) for the Wellington cricket team 1918–1920, later with the (lower grade) Midland cricket club as player and vice-president. Cricinfo gives his lifespan as (1879 – 30 January 1946).

It is possible he was a son of William Forster Dind, a year or so younger than Melbourne Hall Dind, who ran with the Warringah Harriers and with the Sydney Harriers 1896–1897, and was in New Zealand around the same time (another cricket website equates M. Dind with Melbourne Hall Dind, which is improbable on several counts). No given name has been found for M. J. Dind, nor any evidence in the newspapers or genealogy sites to support or refute this proposition. Doug butler (talk) 22:04, 6 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
