Significant update required — two distinct organisations conflated, and WildTeam UK activities not represented

This article requires significant updating and structural clarification. The current text presents WildTeam as a single organisation, which is misleading. There are two distinct, separately governed organisations operating under related names. I have a conflict of interest as I am connected to WildTeam UK and am therefore raising these suggested updates here rather than editing directly. All information is verifiable through the references listed at the end of this post.

Clarification on organisational structure

WildTeam Bangladesh is a locally governed conservation organisation based in Bangladesh, registered as a non-governmental organisation under the NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh. It is the direct continuation of the Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh, founded in 2003, and its primary focus is field conservation in the Sundarbans, including tiger conservation, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, community-based conservation, and collaboration with the Bangladesh Forest Department. WildTeam Bangladesh is governed by a Bangladeshi board of trustees and led predominantly by Bangladeshi staff, many from communities bordering the Sundarbans. The existing article content covers this organisation's history and activities reasonably well, though it requires updating.

WildTeam UK is a separately registered charity in England and Wales, registration number 1149465, established in 2012 originally to support WildTeam Bangladesh's fundraising and provide technical conservation advice. WildTeam UK has since developed into an independent conservation capacity building organisation whose primary activity is vocational training for conservation professionals globally. While the two organisations share values, history, and a close working relationship, they are separately governed, separately managed, and operate entirely distinct programmes.

The article would benefit significantly from either clearly separating content relating to each organisation into distinct sections, or from the creation of two separate Wikipedia articles; one for WildTeam Bangladesh and one for WildTeam UK. The editorial community is better placed than I am to determine which approach is more appropriate given Wikipedia's guidelines on organisational articles.

Vision and mission

WildTeam UK's vision is a world in which every conservationist has access to the skills, knowledge, and network they need to progress their career and make a meaningful difference for the natural world, regardless of who they are or where they are from. The organisation believes that professionally skilled conservationists working with local communities, governments, and businesses have demonstrated the capacity to catalyse the protection and restoration of nature at scale, and that developing thousands of highly skilled conservationists in every country is among the most effective strategies for achieving lasting conservation outcomes.

WildTeam UK's mission is to develop partnerships, tools, and platforms that build the capacity of organisations and individuals to carry out effective conservation. It is guided by the same four core values as WildTeam Bangladesh: celebrating nature, believing people are the solution, grounding everything in reality, and acting fearlessly.

Vocational training platform

WildTeam UK has developed and launched an online vocational training platform at training.wildteam.org.uk offering courses in the core professional skills required for conservation practice. The platform serves conservation practitioners at all career stages, from people seeking their first role in the sector through to experienced professionals seeking to deepen their effectiveness. Courses are co-created by experienced conservation practitioners with direct field experience and are built around applied skills and real-world conservation situations rather than abstract theory.

Current courses include the following.

Project Management for Wildlife Conservation covers the principles and tools required to plan, implement, and manage conservation projects effectively, including risk management, adaptive management, and project reporting.

Project Planning for Wildlife Conservation covers the structured approaches used to develop conservation strategies that achieve measurable biodiversity impact, including threat analysis, theory of change, and action planning.

Grant Writing for Wildlife Conservation covers how to develop compelling funding proposals for conservation projects, including how to communicate impact to funders and navigate the requirements of different funding bodies.

Stakeholder Engagement for Wildlife Conservation covers how to identify, analyse, and work effectively with the full range of stakeholders involved in conservation projects, including communities, governments, and the private sector.

Monitoring and Evaluation for Wildlife Conservation covers how to design and implement systems for tracking progress and demonstrating impact across conservation programmes, including indicator development and data collection methods.

Launching Your Career in Wildlife Conservation was released in 2026 as a fully funded resource for people seeking to enter the conservation sector. The course covers the full process from exploring roles and building competencies through to finding opportunities, preparing applications, performing in interviews, and responding to job offers. It includes personal career journeys from working conservation professionals and is structured around seven steps guided by three core principles: taking charge of your own destiny, playing the long game, and seeing yourself as employers see you.

Conservation Skills Directory

WildTeam UK maintains a publicly accessible global Conservation Skills Directory displayed as an interactive map, listing certified practitioners who have completed and passed examinations in its vocational courses. The directory serves as a professional credential for conservationists and a searchable resource for organisations seeking practitioners with verified skills in specific areas of conservation practice.

Bursary programme

WildTeam UK operates a bursary programme providing fully or partially funded access to its training courses for conservationists from disadvantaged backgrounds or under-resourced geographies. The programme operates on a one-for-one access model in which every course or subscription purchased directly funds a bursary place for another conservationist who could not otherwise afford professional training. The programme addresses the structural barriers that prevent conservationists in lower-income countries and contexts from accessing the professional development available to their counterparts in wealthier regions, and reflects WildTeam UK's commitment to equity of access in conservation capacity building.

Impact

Over 3,000 conservation professionals across more than 50 countries have trained with WildTeam UK, including staff from leading conservation organisations such as WWF, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and The Nature Conservancy. Course participants span the full range of conservation disciplines from field ecology and species monitoring through to fundraising, policy, and programme management, and include practitioners at all levels from early career through to senior leadership.

WildTeam UK's one-for-one bursary model means that its commercial training activity directly funds access for conservationists who would otherwise be excluded from professional development, creating an equity mechanism within the conservation capacity building sector.
