Indonesian usage:
[edit]Wilayah is also used in Indonesia. I'm not clear whether it's a general or specific term.

- Okay, Meursault2004 has confirmed it's a general term.
- I agree with Meursault2004 that this part doesn't belong: "Wilayah dependensi are dependend areas in indonesian. Wilayah yang dipertentangkan are disputed territories." This is because it appears to be a translation, rather than official terms for levels of government of divisions of area - Indonesian speakers see Wilayah dependensi.
- I replaced it with "In Indonesian wilayah means area, region or regional, but does not refer to a level of government."

- fine :-)) , well done to leave the note in the article, so in future mistakes with respect to indonesian usage are less likely. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 9 July 2005 10:14 (UTC)

Wilayah → Wilaya – WP:COMMONNAME: wilaya is the most common spelling in English, as you can see on Ngram (example 1, example 2, example 3).
It is also closer to Arabic ولاية wilāya (note that the letter ة is never pronounced as “h” in Arabic, and it is found in many Arabic words, e.g. madrasa, Kaaba etc.).
The spelling wilaya is already more common on Wikipedia (e.g. Wilaya Building, Wilaya (film), Wilaya of Relizane massacres of 30 December 1997…). ~2026-16280-94 (talk) 13:19, 15 March 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 15:57, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
