Talk:Whitewash

Kalsomin / Calcimine is NOT another name for whitewash. Calcimine is (more or less) a glue base with an opaque pigment added. It's virtue was cheapness, an attractive appearance and the fact that it can be removed with hot watter and scrubbing. It's main detraction is that unless removed it will cause other coats of paint applied over it to peel and fail.Saxophobia (talk) 14:57, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Whitewash is Not limewash. the whole premise of this page is wrong in the UK. LIMEWASH is made from lime and depends on carbonation. WHITEWASH is simply unburnt lime like chalk that can be washed off, hence: Whitewash. In my view the whole page needs editing and the distinction made clear, even if it means different things in different countries.--217.44.18.91 (talk) 10:32, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

To me WHITEWASH is a colour which can be made from lime, but does not necessarily have to be. It can e.g. also me made with chalk, gypsum or clay. LIMEWASH is only made from lime. farming is not revelent to this article

Topic splitting into separate articles is only done where a shared-topic article is overly long and the other uses get buried. In this case, this article is short enough to nearly be a stub, so no splitting is needed, and the farming applications are closely related to the original meaning of the term. ok so you dont have to split the article but i feel that the farming section is the same as making a article about red cars and then putting in a section about blue cars. also the references do not state that soap is an additive to the white wash so until there is more references it should be removed.--Thekiller35789 (talk) 04:28, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

I found this whole article interesting and useful. I think the farming bit is fine myself. However, in it it says 'A mobile whitewashing trailer is used to mix the quicklime ...'. Shouldn't this be hydrated or slaked lime, as it says earlier that quicklime is calcium oxide.Wodawik (talk) 23:18, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
