Given the lack of detail on the tactics of this battle and the lack of mention of archery in the original sources, is this a useful example to include? Perhaps the ambush of Henry I by the men of Maredudd ap Bleddyn, which centrally features archery (Henry I himself being struck by an arrow) might be more useful? Or some discussion of Welsh archers in the Anglo-Norman campaigns in ireland described by Gerald of Wales? Monstrelet (talk) 15:55, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, the primary sources make no mention at all of archery. Modern speculations that make confident assertions about its use are doing us a favor by certifying themselves as unreliable, useless at least for statements in Wikivoice. I have removed this section from the article.
As for your other thoughts, go ahead! How would you feel about using a primary source, Gerald of Wales, for this article? I suggest that it would be useful, and acceptable with suitable caution. We would need to avoid OR; we should not imply that the bows used elsewhere in Wales or by Welshmen in Ireland were, or indeed weren't, the long powerful weapons that Gerald assigns to Gwent.
