Merge

Weir's Commandos

During the war my father served in a home guard unit called Weir's Commandos (a nickname). The unit was composed of Weir's workers, who were all "reserved" workers - ie. could not be conscripted into armed forces, as they were working on vital wartime manufacturing.

Does anyone have any good source material for Weir's during the war years? Eg. my father worked on the turbine feed pump installed into HMS Hood, which now lies at the bottom of the North Atlantic. --Mais oui! (talk) 06:34, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

I work for Weir and I am disclosing a conflict of interest in accordance with Wikipedia guidance. I am requesting a number of factual, source supported updates to ensure the article remains accurate.

The proposed changes are: - update the article title from Weir Group to Weir to reflect the company's current name - update references in the lead section from The Weir Group PLC to Weir PLC. - update the company name in the infobox to Weir PLC. - update the CEO listed from Jon Stanton to Andrew Neilson following his appointment to Chief Executive Officer. - Add a short factual note to the history section stating: "In 2026, the company changed its name from The Weir Group PLC to Weir PLC."

thank you. Can I please ask for one further edit. The opening sentance of the lead paragraph should change from 'The Weir plc is a Scottish...' to 'Weir plc is a Scottish...'
