I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. According to the wigan.rlfans.com website, the 1912-1913 Lancashire Cup Final was played at Weaste, Salford, would this be the same ground as The Willows, Salford?. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 10:32, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
Citation for the origin of the name Weaste?
[edit]The closest citation I can find is from the Place Names of Lancashire, page 42, which does confirm the name comes from "waste" meaning a common land, but does not suggest it comes from Old French. Is anyone aware of a citation confirming its Old French origins? Valienne (talk) 19:44, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
Peter Maxwell Davies: no sources to suggest he was from Weaste
[edit]He was born in Holly Street - this street does not exist any more, but looking at old maps you can see it's somewhere near the modern day (March 2025) West Ashton Street. While the boundaries of Weaste is debatable and unclear, the Weaste and Seedley electoral ward is well-defined, and this street falls just outside of it, so it definitely is not in Weaste. We also know that Davies lived in Trafford Road, which is even further to the East and in Ordsall. He later moved to Swinton. As such, he is not from Weaste and I haven't seen any sources to suggest he described himself as from Weaste. So, I'm removing him from notable residents. Valienne (talk) 20:52, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
