Water Gate Inn is cited to potentially have inspired the name Watergate for the complex, but they also have a restaurant that served Water Gate Cake http://www.streetsofwashington.com/2013/01/popovers-and-hobbyhorses-at-water-gate.html on this site, there is a picture of the menu from April 1954, which includes Water Gate Ice Box Cake. My Grandmother has a recipe book from the 60's that has a recipe for watergate cake that my family has made for decades too. Hi Bridget, thanks for your work on this article! One thing I am unsure of is why the image isn't in the infobox. It is captioned "Watergate pie" which isn't mentioned elsewhere in the article -- is this an alternative name or a similar product? Ta Whonting (talk) 13:42, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
