“Because Earth's environment is relatively close to water's triple point, water exists on Earth as a solid, a liquid, and a gas.” This wording was debated a few years back. My first concern is that the typical visitor will not understand, or will misunderstand, what this means. I’m a physicist, and I think I know what they ‘’meant’’ to say. My second concern is that there is, to my knowledge, no place on Earth’s surface nor atmosphere with conditions near water’s triple point. The triple point is simultaneously a temperature of 0°C and pressure of 6 mbar. That corresponds to about 35 km elevation. A clearer wording would be to replace with “Earth’s surface temperature is close to that of water’s triple point”. Spiel496 (talk) 07:38, 26 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not my area of expertise. This article says water's dipole moment = 1.8546. But was reading on Chemical polarity which says water has different dipole moments for each phase of matter: Gas ≈ 1.86 debye (D), whereas liquid water (≈ 2.95 D) and ice (≈ 3.09 D). Because water is commonly understood in all of its three phases, I suggest that the three dipole moments all be listed. Or perhaps just put the figure for liquid phase, with a note about the phase. The Global Median Boiling Point of Water is 99.3°C

Hate to be that guy but the page is "wrong". We all know that water boils at 100°C (212°F), but this is only at sea level. Because the vast majority of the human population lives above sea level, the median boiling point of water for humanity is actually 99.3°C (210.8°F). On the article it says the boiling point of water is like 99.97° C or something like that im on mobile not risking losing my draft, but i think that its oddly specific for it to be marked as that on the article. If its not exactly 100° C why bother even marking it at this arbitrary temperature for an elevation slightly above sea level, it just doesnt make sense and i think on the article it should provide you with the very commonly known temperature 100° C and the median boiling point of water which is more accurate for anybody reading the article.
