Refined?

The second line of the article states

"The R marque refers to "Refined", since Volvo markets R-designated vehicles as being the most performance-oriented trim level.[1]"

Are there any other sources for this? The linked source in the article just says the vehicle is refined, doesn't say that R stands for refined. Calling a vehicle refined is an industry standard practice. I have been a Volvo fan for decades, have owned multiple R models and have never heard this definition of the trim name.
