Venus volvelle
[edit]Can this section be rewritten for clarity - and the 'slicing and dicing' of numbers seems irrelevant to this article. Jackiespeel (talk) 14:26, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Volvelle
[edit]Hey! Just as an add: Also the games "Pool of Radiance" and "Curse of the Azure Bonds" used Volvelles for decoding when starting a game and ingame for riddles. 80.187.100.11 (talk) 18:27, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Intro Clarity
[edit]The last statement in the first paragraph, "Early examples of volvelles are found in the pages of astronomy books," is in present tense while referring to early examples, leading to the ability to interpret the sentence in multiple ways:
- Did 12th-15 century astrolabes appear in textbooks circa 12th century-15th century
- Do 12th-15th century astrolabes appear in modern textbooks
- Do textbooks from all eras contain contemporary astrolabes
- Is the truth a combination of any of the above?
Secondly, do they appear in textbooks as animals appear in encyclopedias (as pictures and descriptions), or are they included in textbooks as functional replicas?
My collection of astronomy books are reference materials, not exactly textbooks, so I am unable to correct this sentence. I did check several modern astronomy textbooks but was unable to locate a volvelle other than offhand reference to dated tools within a list of other examples.

- Indeed they are found in medieval codices. Here is an example, from Univ. Pennsylvania Oversize Ms. Codex 1881, "Astronomical treatises and tables." https://openn.library.upenn.edu/Data/0002/html/mscodex1881.html
- See, for example, folio 1 verso. ~2025-34253-63 (talk) 07:45, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
