New biography of Virginia Maskell from January 2026

On the occasion of her heavenly 90th birthday on the 27th of February, 2026, a second biography of Virginia Maskell has been published on Wordpress (as PDF files for free download):

“THREE LEAVES IN COLOUR - A Wander in the Footsteps of Virginia Maskell” by AV Andersen is a search for clues of the rise and the decline of an ill-fated lady who passed away prematurely under ominous circumstances that are veiled until today.

The work contains a wealth of previously unpublished information, including corrections of frequently transmitted errors (such as her place of birth, which was actually in Kensington), and particularly questions her alleged treatment at the Mandeville Hospital for depression. But first of all it sheds light on her passionate companionship with the playwright Ronald Duncan. He wrote her first (or rather, their joint) biography "Obsessed", which was published in 1977 but immediately fell into oblivion, so that strange legends about the reasons for her premature decline still circulate today.

Andersen's first chapter is largely focused on the filming for Virgin Island, which took place on location in the BVIs in autumn 1957. It also includes a basic introduction, flashbacks and previews of her various life phases. The following chapters are partly linked to Maskell’s later colour films and largely based on Duncan’s memories.
