As far as I know, a vista also refers to the point where you can't see the environment behind a corner or so. In a painting you often have winding paths that disappear behind a mountain or so. In your mind, you're wondering what's behind the mountain. That's what makes the painting more insteresting and that's the effect of a vista. Austim
