Synonymy with V. teucrium

[edit]

This statement that V. teucrium is a synonym for V. austraica is misleading. Stace & other Flora for the British Isles treat V. teucrium as a sub-species of V. austraica. Continental Floras (such as Rothmaler, Flora Helvetica) treat them as separate species. In either case all these authorities recognise two distinct taxa which are not synonymous. In particular the nominate sub-species of V austraica is not synonymous with V. teucrium. Wikis in other languages (e.g., DE) have separate articles for the two taxa. I'm not sure the statement is misleading so much as incomplete; at the species level, V. teucrium is included within V. austraica, so for anyone not recognizing two subspecies, it is a synonym. If two subspecies are accepted, then V. teucrium is homotypic with V. austraica subsp. teucrium. A fuller article would have a Taxonomy section in which this would be explained.
