Discussion

[edit]

The entry for Venoco under fracking is incorrect. Venoco did have all permits required for wells drilled in Los Alamos. Notices of Violation (NOVs) were incorrectly issued to Venoco and the County of Santa Barbara withdrew those NOVs. A letter dated September 15, 2011, was sent to Venoco from the County of Santa Barbara Planning and Development Director, Glenn Russell stating: "By this letter, I officially withdraw the above referenced NOV's. The NOV's were based on a determination that hydraulic fracturing constituted "water flooding" of the well..." The letter goes on to state that "Upon further review and advice of County Counsel, the Director has concluded "water flooding" is a term of art whose application does not include hydraulic fracturing."

A full text of the letter can be found by contacting the County of Santa Barbara Planning and Development Department. 98.188.130.19 (talk) 19:28, 18 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bankruptcy

[edit]

My understanding, from the quarterly earnings minutes of one of its investors, is that Veneco filed for bankruptcy in April 2017.

"Regarding Venoco, the value of our investment was impacted during the period due to negative outlook for certain regulatory approvals. In April, the company filed for bankruptcy and we expect minimal if any recovery on our investment."
