Russian ship Chichagoff & re the island

[edit]

This is the spelling used in historical accounts, at least those published in British Columbia, concerning the history of Russian America. Given the date - it and the Orel were deployed at Fort Stikine in 1831, it doesn't seem to have been the same vessel as the Chichagov out of Archangelsk in 1766 mentioned in this article. AFAIK the island was named for the ship, maybe I'm wrong - rather than for Vasili Chichagov. I don't have any detailed information on the Chichagoff, which maybe the article should be standard-anglicized to Russian ship Chichagov, but now it seems like there's going to be at least two such articles, if ever...Skookum1 (talk) 15:51, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
