The name of the river is Varana ("varanaa"). What has it got to do with the Vedic 'devata' "varuna"?Kanchanamala 07:17, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, I am from Banaras and I have never heard of anyone calling it Varana. But you may very well be right since googling "Varuna river benaras" and "Varana river benaras" give somewhat more credible sources for the latter one.
