[edit]

I would like to suggest some additional content. I appreciated this page because it provided basic information about vanity phone numbers.

However I am aware that there are many services out there that make a lot of money by "selling" such numbers. And I suspect some of them may reserve a number if they realize a company may be interested in it and thus hold it hostage for far more than if an individual or company gets it first.

I am no expert on this so I hope that someone who really knows this industry and its caveats could add a discussion of these "for pay" services and what to watch out for when dealing with them or searching for an open number. For example, are there free search sites one can use and not find out that one's search resulted in a number being grabbed and held hostage?

Thank you in advance to anyone who can contribute such additional information to this page!

Rol, for public-benefit
