- ... that Vanilla did not use flashy design on Vanilla Cars in Kyoto because they do not want to "ruin the unique scenery of Kyoto"?

Reviewing... Bremps... 22:04, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- First, I cannot find the song lyrics in Music Natalie source, so it will need to be swapped for another source to confirm the lyrics.
- Second, the article needs to specify what a "night leisure job" is. From what I can gather, it's prostitution.
- Third, some sources, such as Daily Sports, WalkerPlus, and Smart Flash apparently do not have "about us" sections or a policy of independence. I'm concerned that we're citing the Japanese equivalent of The Sun. Are these newspapers of record?
- Fourth, the hook should be clear that there's one Vanilla Car in Kyoto, not multiple.
- Fifth, the capitalization of "Vanilla Car" needs to be consistent in the article.
- Good job on the article otherwise. I think these issues are fixable. Please ping me when you're back. Bremps... 22:35, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review @Bremps:, here is some of response.
- 1. The source is in the second paragraph of the source
- 2. I think this is a bit of an WP:OR, as base on this, it can mean from prostitution to Clubs. For base on the Japanese wikipedia (base on an unsourced statement), it is a sex-related club.
- 3. Daily Sports is a sister publication of Kobe Shimbun. (You can see
神戸新聞NEXT
at the footer). Walkerplus is owned and published by Kadokawa Group, who also publishes reliable sources such as ASCII Media Works. Smart Flash on another hand is a little bit complicated, this is a Japanese weekly so WP:SHUKANSHI may apply but this is not a WP:BLP, so it may be usable? - 4. I already pluralized it, is that enough? I'll add "various" if not.
- 5. Done
- I hope this answers some of your question. Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 01:30, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
- 1. Great, I see it
- 2. If you really really can't find sources, it's fine, but are you certain there aren't any sources specifying exactly what the Vanilla company does? It seems like a prominent company.
- 3. It's not contentious info, so I guess it's alright
- 4. The new hooks work, but see below
- 5. Great
- It's not that the hooks are outright unacceptable, but could you maybe try something with the legal aspect or try paraphrasing the quote? As they stand they're slightly awkward. Bremps... 02:34, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Bremps:: Here is a possible hooks
- ALT2 ... that a mobile billboard for a nighttime leisure company in Japan was described as "a part of everyday life"? Source
- ALT3 ... that the design for the Vanilla Cars in Kyoto was based on townhouses of Kyoto? Source
- ALT4 ... that Vanilla Cars includes trucks and buses? Source
- That last one is a "quirky hook". Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 07:48, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
Approving a rephrased ALT1 (change tense), ALT2, and ALT3. Bremps... 15:42, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Bremps and Miminity: Maybe it's just me, but I find the approved hooks less than interesting, which is a shame, since the topic is absolutely fascinating. Let's avoid the euphemisms ("nighttime leisure company") and talk about what this really is, and that will be a very successful hook. I also like ALT0, but it is worded all wrong. Viriditas (talk) 00:02, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- It very well could be sex work, but Miminity apparently cannot find sources saying so. Here's a rephrased ALT0.1: that Vanilla Cars in Kyoto are minimalist so as not to ruin its scenery? and ALT0.2: that Vanilla Cars in Kyoto are minimalist to comply with local laws, unlike in the rest of Japan? - @Bremps:: Here is a possible hooks
, I'm sorry to do this, but I have scrolled past this many times and not promoted it because I don't find that any of the approved hooks comply with WP:DYKINT. Unless something interesting can be proposed very fast this will WP:DYKTIMEOUT. TarnishedPathtalk 12:03, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
@Miminity and Bremps: so you've seen this. My suggestion is to make a hook out of the phrase "sex industry".--Launchballer 06:21, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Something like ALT5: ... that a review of a 2019 film wrote that its use of Vanilla Car made it "feel haunted by the shadow of the sex industry"?--Launchballer 14:02, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- While I do not have an opinion on ALT5's interestingness, I am not really happy that we have to resort to a sex-related hook just to make this move forward. It feels too cheap and overused. Save the use of sex-related stuff for when it's actually necessary, we've had enough complaints about it already. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 06:52, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
It's interesting and supported by a reference in the article. I'm approving it. TarnishedPathtalk 08:33, 13 April 2026 (UTC)

This is now more than a week past WP:DYKTIMEOUT and and has gone unpromoted more than a week after the last approval. As a result I am marking it for closure. (No objection if another promoter wants to quickly move it into prep, since I am not rejecting this on the merits.) Dclemens1971 (talk) 19:10, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Dclemens1971:, we've had discussions in talk along the lines that approved nominations shouldn't be timed out when they are just past the two month mark. TarnishedPathtalk 15:26, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- @TarnishedPath: I would disagree that 8 days is
just past
; it seems like over a week past the actual timing out is certainly in the territory where DYKTIMEOUT is appropriately applied. That said, it takes two to close a timed out nom and I explicitly said in my note that any promoter can still move this into prep since I did not reject it on its merits. In a situation where we have dozens of approved nominations not displaying because of PEIS issues and promoters spend a week skipping past this one sitting at the top when deciding whether to promote, I think DYKTIMEOUT is appropriate. Feel free to ask at DYKT if you think my action isn't acceptable, but to me it's well within the plain reading of the guideline thatUnpromoted nominations over two months old may be rejected at the discretion of reviewers and promoters.
Dclemens1971 (talk) 15:32, 22 April 2026 (UTC)- @Dclemens1971:, no worries. TarnishedPathtalk 15:34, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- @TarnishedPath: I would disagree that 8 days is
"nighttime entertainment"?
[edit]Is that a euphemism for sex work? —Compassionate727 (T·C) 00:47, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- per the review on DYK, it is written in the Daily Sports article as
ナイトレジャー求人サイト
(Night Leisure Recruitment Website). I just literally translate it as it is to avoid it being WP:ORish but I have a feeling Night Leisure is a wasei-eigo for sex work but I’m not really sure. Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 01:38, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
