Vancouver Island tourism employee count

[edit]

@Masterhatch, you reverted my edit that added the employee count for Vancouver Island's tourism industry as "trivial and irrelevant". While normally I would agree, the section below lists the employee count for Vancouver Island's food products industry. Since it does not make sense to count employees for one industry and not another, do you suggest I reword my original fact, restore my edit, or delete the employee number from the Food Products section? TROPtastic (talk) 04:33, 25 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I see that the employment population for farming is right below. It is also dated 2016 -- 9 years old. The data is old. That kinda makes it irrelevant. To make things consistent, we either remove that too or re-add the tourism numbers. My preference would be to remove the population for farming. Masterhatch (talk) 11:29, 25 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Makes sense to me. I will remove the farming number for now until a current figure can be found. TROPtastic (talk) 07:30, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Revised Proposal: Brief mention of 2026 World Cup economic initiatives (Addressing Relevance/Sourcing)

[edit]

I am proposing a single, high-level sentence that frames the local 2026 FIFA World Cup efforts as a broader **economic and tourism initiative** across the southern half of the island, which is relevant given the proximity of the Vancouver host city. This draft addresses the previous revert reasons by using multiple, verifiable sources and eliminating specific, future-focused language.

I propose adding the following sentence to an appropriate section (e.g., at the end of the existing 'Economy' or 'Tourism' section):

Proposed Text: In the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, communities on the island's southern and western coasts engaged in initiatives to leverage the event for regional tourism and potential pre-tournament team base camps.[1][2][3]

Does this revision—which frames the topic as a broader, multi-community economic effort with multiple media sources—satisfy the concerns regarding policy and relevance to the Vancouver Island article?

Thank you.

Irrelevant for Vancouver Island. Should not be included. Hey, I gotta know, are you using AI to write all this for you? The English seems... off. Masterhatch (talk) 05:33, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Masterhatch Thank you, Masterhatch. I accept your assessment that the content is irrelevant for the Vancouver Island article and will not pursue it here.
Regarding your question about my writing: I sometimes use tools for initial drafting, but I ensure all final text and Talk page comments are reviewed and verified by me. I appreciate the feedback on the English and will focus on making my writing clearer moving forward.
Since we established consensus on the Port Alberni Talk page that the revised text for the 'Sports' section there was acceptable, I will now implement that edit on the Port Alberni article. Abujahangir (talk) 05:50, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's not that your English is wrong or not clear, it's that i feel like i'm reading something written by a computer when i read what you write. That's what i mean by "off". Masterhatch (talk) 05:56, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Masterhatch Thanks for clarifying. I am taking notes on your comment.
I sometimes use tools to help draft, but I'll make sure all my comments and edits are clearly written in my own voice.
I appreciate the feedback on the Port Alberni article as it was the first positive response I received on an edit proposal through revert, revision in talk page, and your feedback (complete cycle). Your feedback on the Vancouver Island page is a great next step for me in learning the validation process and the limits of topical relevance. Abujahangir (talk) 07:08, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
