Callback

More commonly the functionality in this article is called a callback as discussed at callback (computer science). This definition seems very specific to a narrow set of applications, and differing uses and meanings of the term exist elsewhere. Kbrose (talk) 19:33, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

USer Exit Definition: I think the definition is just fine but might be expanded. I would note that a user exit has fixed parameters that the software package expect to be used. If the user site specific code is substituted for the default exit it must interface to the software package using the defined parameters as documented for the default exit. User exits are important because while the enable site specific customization they isolate such installation specific customization to defined and supported points enabling the site to upgrade to follow-on releases of the software package without adverse impact to preexisting customized functionality. Here are some IBM user exit manuals. Other vendors such as SAP, Oracle, HP, Macro4, Compuware, CA all employ user exits in some of their software products.
