[edit]

I am a student employee of the University at Buffalo, disclosing my conflict of interest as outlined on my user page. I am requesting the following updates to the Research section of the University at Buffalo page.

Changes requested:

  • Addition to Research section reflecting current activity and data
  • Update outdated information:
UB houses two of the eleven New York State Centers of Excellence
+
UB houses two of the thirteen New York State Centers of Excellence
Total research expenditures for the fiscal year of 2017 were $401 million, ranking 59th nationally.
+
Annual research expenditures are $540 million.
  • Remove outdated information (the university's research priorities have evolved, this statement no longer accurately reflects its current focuses): "Emphasis has been placed on developing a community of research scientists centered around an economic initiative to promote Buffalo and create the Center of Excellence for Bioinformatics and Life Sciences as well as other advanced biomedical and engineering disciplines."

Sources include institutional records and government documents.

Proposed Text:

The University at Buffalo is classified as an R1: Doctoral University [1], denoting doctoral-granting universities with the highest levels of research activity. It is a flagship of the State University of New York (SUNY) system [2] and the No. 1 public university for research activity in New York state [3]. It also was the first SUNY institution invited into the Association of American Universities (AAU) [4], an organization of the 71 leading research universities in North America. Annual research expenditures are $540 million [5].

UB houses two of the thirteen New York State Centers of Excellence: the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences (CBLS) and the Center of Excellence in Materials Informatics (CMI) [6].

Partly done: Updating figures is fine, but there are other places in the article where UB's prominence as a UB university and its early induction in to the AAU is already described. I don't see the value in adding it to the "Research" section. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 17:40, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
