[edit]December 2006
[edit]This appears to have been simply copied from the U of M disambiguation page, after which a tiny number of additional links were added. No one calls the University of Minnesota "UM". It is very frequently called "the U of M", as is the University of Michigan (and as are more than a dozen others). Michigan does use the "UM" abbreviation. Michael Hardy 20:36, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- I came to this article after reading about the "University of Minnesota Biocatalysis/Biodegradation Database", short UM-BBD. So some people at the university itself use the abbreviation, and therefore this "U of M" should also be mentionned here. Futhermore, I fail to see how this rather minor issue justifies the accurayccy tag on top of the page. Note: I meant to add this comment some days ago (at the time of my edit of the actual page), but somehow it got lost, which I noticed only now. My apologies.--a.bit 10:31, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Michael Hardy. I am a U of M alumnus and employee, and I have never in my life, even once, heard it referred to as "UM". Using acronyms to justify it is just silly - that doesn't mean anyone refers to it as "UM". I will give it a week from now, and if no one has responded, I will delete the University of Minnesota from this list.Dpodoll68 (talk) 17:04, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- As no one has voiced any objections, I will now remove the University of Minnesota from the list. To reiterate, no one calls it UM.Dpodoll68 (talk) 21:14, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Unconnected Marketeers
[edit]UM is a very commonly used abbreviation for Unconnected Marketeers within the Touhou Project community and also a redirect on touhouwiki.net's UM page. I'm not sure why it can't be mentioned here. FGeorjje (talk) 08:03, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:DAB, the term needs to be mentioned and cited in the target article, to show that it is indeed a common abbreviation. Once that is done (preferably mentioned in the lead), you can add it here. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:13, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- The common abbreviations for Touhou Games are not cited on most individual game pages, yet multiple mentions and redirect pages exist. These are also common terms within the community.
- WBaWC has a full fleged redirect page, yet Ctrl+F "WBaWC" = 0 results.
- Ten Desires has had a mention on TD since 2012 (rev link https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=TD&diff=prev&oldid=477150642), yet TD isn't mentioned anywhere on the Ten Desires page.
- What's the process here? We have some games mentioned in disambiguation pages and some not. If the policy is to apply by letter, do we remove all Touhou game redirects/abbreviations and also cancel the redirect requests I created? Sounds counter productive... FGeorjje (talk) 09:11, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- The same rules apply to these games as to any other terms on Wikipedia. Redirects and DAB entries should only exist if mentioned in the article, and cited. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:53, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- WP:DAB mentions "In particular, do not include people and other things simply because of their initials, unless those initials have been widely used."
- The respective initials for each Touhou game are being widely used within the community. A simple search for any Touhou related acronym shows more than enough results. For example:
- https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=wbawc
- While I'm unsure how one would cite or verify an acronym being widely used within a community, reverting this only for the UM page produces a clear inconsistency in how Touhou Project game acronyms are handled. It does not make sense to have one particular game in a series not mentioned on a disambiguation page while every other game in the series either has corrosponding redirects or disambiguation mentions.
- I am adding the acronym back for sitewide consistency. If you insist on following WP:DAB, please remove the redirects/DAB mentions for each and every Touhou game sitewide.
- Lastly, do not bother me further. I do not wish to interact with you further. Let me be crystally unambiguously clear that simply dropping a giant policy page and refusing to answer the SPECIFIC question on the process / implied next steps is an incredibly hostile action towards a new user. If you wish to take an authoritative position, it is also your moral responsibility to decide the next steps. I wanted to improve the consistency in how Touhou game acronyms are handled here. Instead, you simply regurgitated a policy page and ignored the rest of the sitewide inconsistency issue.
- Additionally, the "Good Faith" page linked in your revert edit accuses my actions of being harmful. This accusation is harassment and if this is repeated I will simply delete my account on here for the clear reason of being harassed by you, and given the clear lackluster attitude I'm sure I wouldn't be the first you've driven off this site. I have other things to do rather than argue about a Touhou game acronym. FGeorjje (talk) 13:48, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
