Why is this article entirely about red soil in America? Red soil has huge significance in many other parts of the world, and there's a lot more to write about it. This article actually looks like it's covered in another page in more detail. Vvneagleone (talk) 13:41, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

-- It is a term in use in USDA soil taxonomy, thus the regional nature of the term. The world-use term closest to Ultisol is Acrisol. Merger doesn't appear justified. Paleorthid (talk) 22:14, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Remove gardening section

Hi Wikipedians,

I think the "Gardening in Ultisol" section should be removed for being irrelevant information.

The information about gardening is not specific to this soil order (ultisols). The cultivation limitations and recommendations described are applicable to many other soil orders, not just ultisols. Many other soils orders are high in clay, benefit from soil tests, and benefit from the addition of organic matter/fertilizer. In particular, alfisols and oxisols (a case could be made for some vertisols and inceptisols, probably others).

None of the citations in this section are specific to ultisols, they only reference clay soils. As mentioned above, other soils (alfisols and oxisols) are also clayey or characterized by orange and reddish clayey subsoil horizons.

The "Planting in Ultisol" section is inaccurate - implying that species native to areas with ultisols are "adapted to poorly drained, damp soils." The majority of ultisols in the United States are well drained (over 75% are classified as udutls, less than ~10% are poorly drained aquults).

TLDR: this is general gardening advice that is not specific to ultisols.
