place of sinking

Although most sources state the place of sinking to be off Florida coast, the following is found on the veterans website

I served on the EATON from commissioning until sept 1944 and was aboard when we shot down the first 7 planes and sunk the sub on the surface plus all the invasions we were involved in in the South Pacific. I was EM2/c at that time. I just returned from the reunion in York PA. There were only 4 of us old plank owners there. yes we are getting old I'm relizing and wonder how many more reunions I can attend. It was good to see everyone. The picture of the ship with all the rust that was taken just before she was sunk 90 miles off the coast of Norfolk sure is sad looking. She was a good ship. Paul Hecht. Paul W.
