Sisters?

[edit]

This article continually refers refers to "Congress" and "Chesapeake" as "sister ships" of the "Constitution". They were not. They and "Constellation" were 38-gun frigates of a lighter class.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 2404:4404:3400:6600:CCDB:DE5:12DC:B170 (talk) 10:21, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

You need to better research. Those ships underwent extensive modifications. That is why they have different armament. 67.199.215.192 (talk) 02:10, 12 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

The ship features, and has a quest, in Fallout 4. This alone warrants a typical 'in popular media' section, and I dare say she's at least visible in a film or two set in Boston, or mentioned in novels.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.4.216.157 (talk) 08:03, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Protected edit request on 20 July 2025, adding inflation calculation

[edit]

Suggest that this inflation calculator be added to inform of the current cost, adjusted for inflation.

(Error when using {{Inflation}}: NaN, check parameters for non-numeric data: |value=$302,718 (parameter 2).)

$302,718 in 1794 is worth $10,577,526.29 today Regushee (talk) 14:08, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not fully protected. But, I'm not convinced that current cost, adjusted for inflation is a meaningful metric for this ship so without a substantive argument that persuades me otherwise, I would oppose adding a (working) version of the suggested template. The working template looks like this:
{{inflation|US|302718|1794|r=-3|fmt=eq}}equivalent to $6,569,000 in 2025
Interestingly, that is significantly different from OP's claim: $302,718 in 1794 is worth $10,577,526.29 today.
Do we need either? I don't think so.

This issue was discussed many years ago. Using an inflation calculator is considered original research. Unless a reliable source can be found which states that 1797 are equal to a particular amount in a particular year. Brad (talk) 10:04, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Brad101, just as an FYI, {{inflation/fn}} exists and can be used for inflation templates. The {{inflation}} figures are calculated based specifically on the sources given in the {{inflation/fn}} template, making it not original research. Epicgenius (talk) 12:11, 23 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please note that a new user has sent this article to AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/USS Constitution. It may be worth posting a link to the AfD to the top of this article as per usual process, although I can't imagine this AfD lasting too long. I closed the nomination instead. The nomination is either misguided (AGFing that they don't know about the notability criteria) or, more likely, is trolling. Epicgenius (talk) 11:54, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
