Redirecting "USL" to "United Soccer League"

[edit]

I am making the bold decision to move the disambiguation page at "USL" to "USL (disambiguation)", and then make "USL" a redirect to "United Soccer League". My reasoning for this is:

  1. I've used the Massviews tool to see which "USL" pages have gotten the most traffic in the past year. "United Soccer League" is far-and-away the most popular topic listed on the USL disambiguation page.
    1. It also seems likely that United Soccer League will continue to outpace the other USL pages, as it is an active/growing soccer league while many of the other USL topics are defunct or are no longer called "USL". (However, I acknowledge this is a weaker argument due to WP:CRYSTAL.)
  2. "United Soccer League" is known almost exclusively by its abbreviation rather than by its full name. All of their branding (see: official website) and secondary coverage tends to only use the name "USL", and the full title "United Soccer League" tends to only appear in the small print. It seems quite likely to me that many people interested in USL might not even know what it stands for, and could be confused by the lengthy disambiguation page. Most/all of the other "USL" topics are well known by their full title moreso than their abbreviation.

Of course, I will add a hatnote on United Soccer League to link to the disambiguation page. If you respond to this discussion, I would appreciate using {{re}}. Thanks, IagoQnsi (talk) 20:11, 6 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
