Sea story
[edit]I sailed in USCGC Tupelo in September through October 1971, with LCDR William Zimmerman, USCG, Commanding; CWO3 Thomas J "Tom" Lynn, USCG, Chief Engineer; CPO Virgil D Kroupa, USCG, BMC; and PO1 Charles "Charlie" Whiddon, USCG, CS1. Sea story
[edit]In October 1971. LCDR William Zimmerman, USCG, Commanding Officer, CWO3 Thomas J. Lynn, USCG, Chief Engineer, BMC Virgil D Kroupa and I arrived simultaneously at Tupleo at Tongue Point Coast Guard Base, Astoria Oregon. In accordance with U.S. naval custom the Quartermaster of the Watch (QMOW) announced "Now, Tupelo arriving" on the 1MC. As we mounted the gangway the absentee pennant came down and the QMOW further announced, "Now, Tupelo aboard". Captain Zimmerman then turned to us and said: "Every day I thank God I am not the skipper of the Cutter Pansy". Tjlynnjr (talk) 06:26, 26 March 2011 (UTC).
