Per the encyclopedia's non-free content criteria policy, it states at NFCC#1: No free equivalent. Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose. Per this, File:Type Dangerous.png is not required, as a free image File:Type Dangerous (Alternate).png is available, and Wikipedia will always lean to the free content over non-free. Having an image of the singer on the artwork does not benefit the reader's understanding of the page's topic. livelikemusic(TALK!)17:28, 11 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Is it actually an alternate cover? I think it is a promotional image that was shared before the official cover was released. I think we should be showing actual covers when available. Heartfox (talk) 23:45, 13 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Livelikemusic I still can't understand why you are still trying to delete all the alternate covers even though some of them are free content, or some are necessary (such as "Delusional"), but anyway, I agree with @Heartfox; if the cover File:Type Dangerous (Alternate).png is a promotional image, I don't think it is needed. I added it because I thought it was the song's alternate cover, but if it's not, no reason to keep it. Camilasdandelions (talk!) 10:29, 14 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
If my statement were re-read properly, File:Type Dangerous (Alternate).png is not the problem — it's been introduced, therefore, it exists. It's a free image, whereas File:Type Dangerous.png is the problem as a non-free image. Per WP:NFCC, if a free equivalent is available, which "Alternate" is, then it should be used over the non-free image. If anything, "Alternative" (which should be lowercased) is more appropriate, given it lists both the title and the artist of the article in question, whereas "Type Dangerous" is simply an image of the singer, which again, there are plenty of free images of Carey for use. Free will always be prefered on the encyclopedia over non-free, per the image policies, as non-free should only be used as a "last resort", again, per the policy and the encyclopedia's legal policies. livelikemusic(TALK!)14:11, 14 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
