He is a great musician, making strides in indie music, and it's important people know about him.

Wikipedia is not designed to make people aware about musicians, it is for article about people that are notable and whose notability can be verified by reliable sources. The current article does not indicate any notability, either generally or in the music field. GregJackP Boomer! 00:34, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... Ty segall is a rising popular act in the world of garage and punk --98.87.10.147 (talk) 02:15, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

He still needs to be notable, and the article does not show that. GregJackP Boomer! 02:58, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ty Segall is an actual musician, I'm listening to him right now, and SOME amount of an entry is better than nothing. They play his music frequently on satellite radio. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.249.165.159 (talk) 06:43, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have no doubt that he is an actual musician, however that does not entitle him to a Wikipedia entry. He has to be notable and as a musician he has to meet the requirements of WP:MUSICBIO. The article, as written, does not do that. GregJackP Boomer! 06:54, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Segall is one of the biggest names in today's indie scene

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... The article clearly shows how he is a prolific cult musician. It is also the most efficient way to find all of Ty Segall's musical projects, and I feel it would be wrong to delete this page. --92.41.38.205 (talk) 12:02, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Segall's Hometown is not San Francisco

[edit]

I was surprised when I read this as the last sentence in the first paragraph. Certainly, SF was and is an important place in his biography and career but it's well documented that he grew up in Laguna Beach and visited LA often, then went to school at SF State and lived in SF for a a few years (2008 - 2010?), then moved to LA where he has lived for many years since then. In his own words "LA is the hometown now". However, in my understanding of the word "hometown," his would be Laguna Beach. In either case, it's not SF.

From the Guardian in 2017: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/jan/19/ty-segall-on-black-flag-t-rex-and-why-the-kinks-made-so-much-sense-in-90s-california "We’re sitting at an outdoor cafe in the hip neighbourhood of Highland Park in Los Angeles, not far from where Segall lives. He has been living in LA for nearly five years, and was in San Francisco before that."

From Flood Magazine in 2022 https://floodmagazine.com/107659/ty-segall-flood-12-in-convo/ "Yeah—LA is the hometown now. It just feels like home. I mean, it always has been in some form; but I feel like over the past four or five years we've been really accepted as an LA band, even though I started to kind of have a bit of success when I was living in San Francisco."

And about when he was younger: "I did get up to LA once I started hanging out with people who had cars. And then I got a driver's license and it was all over; basically, I was up in LA any chance I could get!"

@Gjb0zWxOb please undo or edit your contribution stating that Segall's hometown is SF. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ty_Segall&diff=prev&oldid=1226080096 Your linked source from CBS News does not say that SF is his hometown but only that he emerged out of the SF Garage Rock scene. Good catch, just fixed it and created a Personal life sec. that indicates that he resides in LA. Gjb0zWxOb (talk) Gjb0zWxOb (talk) 18:25, 8 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
