'You get Hoynes!'

The article as it stands interprets this as Bartlet isn't going to run again, but I thought it was that Hoynes deserves punishment and he's going to Hell? What do we all think? Jessica x

Latin Translation

Anyone have the translation of what Bartlet said in Latin in the cathedral? If anyone does have the translation, does anyone believe it should be added? I think it should as even without knowing what he says when he talks in Latin the whole cathedral scene is the best in the series and the best in the whole show in my opinion. The reason i put my point of view here is because many people that followed the show think the same, also I'm saying it because just having this part translated and put into the page does not mean we have to do it for all the other episodes, Latin is spoken without letting us know what the person means. Possible error re identity of actress who played the part of Mrs. Landingham

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but rather than Kristen Nelson, wasn't Kathryn Joosten the actress who played the part of - Mrs. Landingham Mrs. Landingham? See "Synopsis" section of [Cathedrals].

On second read - I realize Ms. Nelson played the role of Mrs. Landingham in the flashback sequences (Mrs L. as a young woman). As someone always behind on culture - only discovering the West Wing now - I was, at first, confused.

Apologies if this is clear to other readers.

Filming ban in the National Cathedral

I question the reliability of the source for this:
During filming in the National Cathedral, in Washington, D.C., Sheen as Bartlet stubbed out a cigarette on the floor prompting the Cathedral to ban filming inside the building.

The reason I question it is that the cathedral's official website gives rules and offers appointments for filming inside; they charge $500/day. YoPienso (talk) 00:57, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

I would second this, and note that the cathedral also has a separate page on their website outlining their Filming and Video Policy, which offers a permission request form and a set of requirements that specifically mention an application path for production companies. It does not seem like filming is banned in the cathedral.

The characterization in the referenced article (no longer available but backed up on archive.org) that the stubbing out of the cigarette was upsetting enough to prompt a ban on filming also differs from the characterization in the interviews in the west wing blu-ray special feature "Constructing Two Cathedrals" (I apologize, i do not know how to source this appropriately as i cannot find footage of it online, i simply watched the disk itself). The interviews with Aaron Sorkin and Tommy Schlamme indicate that, while some members of the clergy present at the filming were disturbed by the performance, many others were on board, with one priest who had read the whole script noting that the questioning of god is a part of faith, and another being particularly excited for Bartlet's angry latin speech. Admittedly, however, these interviews are with the episode's writer and director, not the members of the clergy themselves, and may therefore be biased in favor of a positive reception.
