Three toxic amino acids? Or three toxic peptides?
[edit]Peptides are short chains of amino acids; the two terms are not synonymous. Many naturally occurring toxins have turned out to be peptides.
This article refers to a news article on the BBC web site, but that's not a definitive source of such information. Journalists often confuse terms like "amino acid" and "peptide", in my experience.
Judging from the abstract at http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/summary/329/5988/132 , there's a better article at http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/329/5988/132 but it's behind a paywall. - I've read the paper (it's actually a news report rather than a study) and it definitely says they are toxic amino acids. AFAIK no peptides would be toxic to eat as they would be digested, it only things like snake venom, which get into the blood which could be toxic peptides. Smartse (talk) 14:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
