Reference numbers as of this revision.

  • [1] - Fine.
  • [4] - was added in order to draw more new players to the game, maintaining a large playerbase. This is a bit orthogonal to the source, which describes it as an attempt to appeal to "casual gamers" and "those who have yet to play an MMORPG". (They could, for example, draw hardcore MMORPG players who have yet to play FFXIV, who would also be "new players".)
  • [6] - Calling it "the perfect minigame" is not a verbatim quote, source uses "my perfect minigame", so -> Calling it the "perfect minigame" or Calling it "my perfect minigame"
  • [7] - Fine.
  • [10] - Fine.
  • [11] - Fine.
  • [12] - Fine.

Prose

[edit]

Lead

[edit]
  • Revolving around collecting and battling cards with images of different in-game monsters, many NPCs within the game world can be challenged to a match - grammatically mismatched, the first clause describes the game, and the subject of the second is "many NPCs".
  • Triple Triad is known as one of the most popular minigames of all time - is there a distinction from the wording Triple Triad is one of the most popular minigames of all time? Is this an attempt to attribute an opinion? If so, we should just attribute it. Also, this information seems to be present only in the lead.
  • where it became a regular fixture - what information in the body does this correspond to?

Gameplay

[edit]
  • The player begins by choosing five cards from their collection, then places them on a nine-space grid - This makes it sound like the player starts by placing all five selected cards, but from the source (and from watching a video of the gameplay), it seems like players alternate turns, placing one card at a time. Can we make that clearer?
  • with some spaces being marked with elements - I'd combine this with the later discussion of elements, for Some of the nine spaces on the board are marked with elements: placing cards on a matching element gives a card a +1 bonus to all stats, while a different element gives the card a -1 penalty.
  • Each card has numbers for each side corresponding to their stats - It took me forever to understand this wording. GameFan is much clearer: "Every card has four numbers on it corresponding to each of the card's four sides (top, left, bottom, and right)"
  • Quezacotl, a summoned creature known as a GF (Guardian Force), can learn the ability Card Mod - the name of the creature and ability seem like very minor details

Development

[edit]
  • original director of Final Fantasy VIII - The source says "original director" because it's talking about it in the context of FF8 Remastered, but we're not, so we can just describe him as the director
  • The physical release seems like it should go in Legacy with the other non-FF8 implementations?

Reception

[edit]
  • wrote that the minigame's music was "ludicrously catchy", and that it enhanced the player's experience in a similar way as Gwent from The Witcher 3 - Grammar. Second clause subject is the minigame's music, but it in the third is presumably the whole minigame, not the music.
  • Noting that the game, noted that it was as satisfying - MOS:SAID, generally avoid noting as it can place their opinion in Wikivoice.
  • called it "why I love card games" and causing a love for "card games of all stripes" seem like redundant quotes.
  • forcing fans to play with fan-made decks - forcing is a strong word not used by the source and I think implies more active malice on Square Enix's part. causing or prompting are more neutral.

Legacy

[edit]
  • In 2007, fans were noted as having created an unofficial homebrew version of Triple Triad on PSP, complete with servers that enabled online play. An unofficial browser-based version called Triple Triad Advance was also noted as having been active for more than two decades - These two sentences are strangely indirect. Yes, the secondary source coverage is why we deem things due for inclusion, but what we include is usually the actual thing that was covered, not the fact that it was noted in a secondary source. If we compare to how we describe the other related media, who released these unofficial versions, under what titles, and when?
  • before the player had to wait to replenish energy or pay for more - worth linking energy (video gaming) for the mechanic?
  • quality concerns was -> quality concerns were
