Why should not vs why

This article only provides reasons as to why tree topping shouldn't be done, and provides no explanation as to why it is done. Tree Surgeon: incorrect term

The term "arborist" is generally preferred to "tree surgeon" by the profession. Note that neither "tree surgeon" nor "surgeon" appear in the ISA's Online Dictionary of Arboricultural Terms but "arborist" is there. I have not edited this page to reflect that though, because I'm new here and maybe someone would want to discuss it first? (I am an ISA Certified Arborist). The current photo is incorrect

The current photo says "Topped trees in Gosport", but these trees are NOT topped - they've been pollarded. keypunch (talk) 00:46, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

I know nothing about the subject before reading the article, and still know nothing. I wanted to know about tree topping and why it is done. I still don't know. Agreed. The purpose section doesn't explain the purpose. It just provides hear-say information and reasons not to do it. Praemonitus (talk) 18:42, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Significant redesign: Comments?

@Moving toward a more comprehensive article on this practice and a neutral point of view, I made a small step in that direction by reorganizing the layout, as one proposed idea for expansion. I also restructured several sentences, worked over the grammar & punctuation a little, and tried to give the paragraphs somewhat more coherent flow, aiming for continuity. The article needs a lot more citations, which I did not tag, but which should be pretty simple to procure. I've got a lot of reference materials & will get to some of this myself, but lots more also needs to be said and cited, too. We still need at least one really illustrative photo, of which there could be MANY, as this practice is widespread. I didn't take the time to dig up and apply a bunch of wikilinks to existing articles on terms used herein either, and that needs to be done too. Probably more. Article is clear

I disagree with other commentators - the opening sentences of the second, third and fourth paragraphs give examples of why topping is practised. Topping is generally regarded as damaging and unsatisfactory so the article accurately reflects the balance of expert knowledge.

"Tree surgeon" is a popularly used term certainly in UK English .The discussion of its use compared with that of the term "arborist" belongs under entries for those terms Tricktd (talk) 21:28, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
