Talk:Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format

I've tried not to rant about the deceitful tactics Microsoft has used to embed TNEF formats into their products (for example, in Outlook TNEF cannot be selected or unselected, but if you check the box for "Rich Text Format" you silently switch your attachment encoding from MIME to TNEF! RTF does not actually require TNEF, of course, MIME works fine for RTF.)

It'd be nice if someone of greater editorial talent than I reorganized the link references in the article.

TNEF Decoders (on non-windows)

I've tried using the TNEF decoder from http://sourceforge.net/projects/tnef/ and found it doesn't like the winmail.dat files (that I've been sent). I conclude this is because it's designed to read TNEF rather than specifically winmail.dat files. I also tried the decoder from http://ytnef.sourceforge.net/ and found it could successuflly read all the winmail.dat files (that I've been sent). It seems this latter one has been designed specifically to read winmail.dat.

I've made a minor change to the article to reflect this, however I'd like someone with more knowledge in this subject to upgrade the article.

Gmail does not read TNEF

It is stated in the article that gmail reads TNEF. This did not work in gmail for me and I can also find no reference on the web that gmail can read TNEF (e.g. http://mail.google.com/support/). I will delete this statement if noone objects Xtothel (talk) 19:13, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
