Expand structure
[edit]The article as written heavily focuses on government data requests and conflates it with the concept as a whole, but transparency reports have also become a regulatory requirement around showing what content and accounts get removed from platforms. Government data requests might be how these types of reports originated but understates how it has developed and the impact the new form of reports have on understanding online speech. Content moderation transparency reporting is now mandated by major regulatory bodies around the world (OFCOM in the UK, eSafety in Australia, etc). These are legally distinct from government data request reporting and cover a different set of platform activities entirely. There are also voluntary transparency reports that deal with severe topics like online child abuse, which might be worth mentioning too.
