For beginners the page has neither - perhaps a basic overview of what transcription is and how it works would be beneficial. - ben

Small definition and "written copy"

I believe it is appropriate to use the term 'written,' despite non-phonetic uses such as genetic and technological. This is because both of those mediums metaphorically refer to writing (the DNA code involves lettering; data is written to disk). Again, I urge that the use of "Item W may refer to XYZ" be discontinued where possible, as it is essentially meaningless and there are usually much better replacements involving brief definitions – which are not prohibited (refer WP:DABSTYLE, "Start each list with a short introductory sentence fragment" and the linked MOS page, MOS:DAB.

Specifically, due to historical precedent I believe "Transcription (linguistics)" to be in some ways the most prominent (or in a way, "sub-primary" topic) as it has been around the longest; therefore MOS:DABPRIMARY applies over MOS:DABINT for generic introductory lines. Suggestion: Add neutral reference on specialized transcription services

I noticed that the Transcription article explains the general process well, but the “Speech transcription” section doesn’t currently mention how transcription practices vary across professional industries such as law, healthcare, and education.

I’d like to suggest adding one neutral sentence in the Speech transcription → Service and software section, for context:

“Specialized transcription services are commonly used in professional settings such as legal, medical, and educational fields, where accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance are essential.”
