Misnamed
[edit]This article is misnamed - TCAP does not stand for Transaction Capabilities Application Part; it stands for Transaction Capabilities. A quick scan of Q.771 would show that! Page needs to be moved to its proper name. 86.144.170.33 21:27, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Application Layer?
[edit]I also doubt that TCAP is an application layer on the OSI stack, even as SS#7 uses it; TC-Users are the application layer, with TCAP providing more of a session service (layer 5) - begin, continue, end. TCAP on its own doesn't provide any application services in an SS#7 network. 86.144.170.33 21:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Tutorials on IEC?
[edit]The IEC ss7 Tutorial linked on the page bottom, ends with a rich NOT FOUND! Neither the tutorials nor any other useful information can be accessed on IEC page though, rather than the names of people working there? Changing that link to something existant? TCAP/TCP similarity?
[edit]The article mentions that TCAP is similar to TCP. Not really in the sense that TCP does not offer explicit transaction support, most of the signalling protocols that work over TCP (sip, diameter) implementing their own transaction mechanism. Differentiating between sub-systems is done using Signalling Connection Control Part. I have also seen that there are two TCAP entries in wikipedia: Transaction Capabilities Application Part and TCAP. imo TCAP should be removed (merged into the other one?).
