Car Wars was the original Traffic Cops, following the Greater Manchester Police. There may have been a couple of series, I'm not sure. It is still occasionally repeated on satellite channels. I suspect the name changed to avoid confusion with the Sky TV programme Road Wars, which started at the same time the BBC adopted the Traffic Cops title.
